Lee is a proponent of animal rights as well as PETA. Lee has written Terry Prather, SeaWorld's president to protest Tilikum's treatment of Tilikum. Lee believed that the orca should be freed and asserted that SeaWorld did not agree, since Tilikum is their most important donor of sperm. Lee expressed his displeasure at SeaWorld's inept and bizarre method to obtain Tilikum fertile. Lee declared that he would not want to see trainers dying, since these tragedies were the result of whales' distaste for being held in captivity.
